Product Description:

Stainless Steel Blackener 370 Small 500ml

Part Number:- SSB370

Stainless Steel Blackener 370 is an acidic liquid concentrate used full strength or diluted with up to 3 parts water to blacken stainless steel at room temperature.

Recommended for color coding parts and blackening engravings on stainless steels.

Produces a pleasing dark gray/black finish. No sealer required.

1 litre will blacken approximately 4 square meters

Suggested concentrtations for SSB370

For 300 series alloys, try a 50% by volume of SSB370 and 50% by volume water solution.

For 400 series alloys, try a 33% by volume of SSB370 and 67% by volume water solution or a

25% by volume of SSB370 and 75% by volume water solution.

Difficult to blacken surfaces may require the use of SSB370 at full strength (100% by volume).

Please note, ALL stainless steel surfaces are passive by nature and may require activating.

This is done by immersing your part into a solution of 50% Hydrochlric Acid, which is available at nearly all hardware stores.

The second picture of the clip and hook is of 316 stainless steel and required the acid dip, and after that it went black almost immediately.

When diluting any acid always pour acid into water. NEVER the other way around.

316 Stainless Steel  always needs activating, other stainless steels may not.

If they wont blacken and you haven't activated them, activate them.

Hydrochloric acid is the acid used by brickies to clean off excess mortar.

I used this product on a stainless exhaust. I scratched up the surface with some wet and dry sandpaper. and applied this product with a brush. After the exhaust went beautifully dark dark grey but could really see the brush marks. Afterwards I used a clean rag and reapplied the blackener in a consistent direction and it matted out all the marks and came up beautiful. very happy with the product. Will definitely recommend this product to anyone after blackening any form of stainless steel.
